Forward’s on-site compost facility supports a local circular economy, recycling food and green waste from homes and businesses and turning it into compost for use in gardens and agriculture.
The facility can recycle up to 147,000 tons of organic waste annually, utilizing industry-leading aerated static pile (ASP) technology along with a traditional windrow compost method.
The ASP technology uses four 20 horsepower fans to deliver variable aeration to zones of food and green waste material – speeding up the decomposition process while minimizing odors and emissions.
Forward’s Compost Facility helps municipal partners and customers comply with California SB 1383, which requires diversion of organic material to help support the state’s climate goals.
Compost produced at the site is returned to the community through giveaway events, donations and sales to agricultural and other customers.
